About Gavan

Gavan was born February 26, 1943 in Wilkinsburg, PA (eastern suburb of Pittsburgh) spent most of first 18 years in Turtle Creek. Gavan has been an active musician and song writer for over 30 years and used to play country music though now when performing solo plays a variety of tunes many of which display not only his wit but his ability to entertain and captivate a crowd. Gavan is a familiar face at folk festivals in Arizona and is heavily involved with the Arizona Songwriters Association, runs 2 monthly workshops for local songwriters and is a great resource for musicians who desire to network with other musicians.

Gavan has had national attention for his involvement in what has been touted as the worlds oldest punk band “One Foot in the Grave”, which has been seen on national T.V. including MTV, VH1, PBS, Entertainment Tonight, Inside Edition, A Current Affair, Montel Williams and has also had 4 tours of Europe. Gavan, a tall, thin, white-bearded ex-monk (no kidding!), is responsible for a lot of the witty and intelligent song writing and for management of the band and is one of its original members. Gavan takes great interest in alternative and underground music and usually has some projects going on the side.

“One Foot in the Grave surely must be the greatest punk band ever to emerge from a retirement community. Songwriter Gavan Weiser cranks out frenetic, catchy tunes with lyrics concerning such standard punk themes as menopause, soft stools, the thrill of golfcart driving and--naturally--life in the 'hood: Sun City.”
Barry Graham, New Times, Nov. 1998
