About Jeff

Jeff Carter has been playing guitar for 38 years, and writing songs for nearly as long. He considers himself more of a songwriter than a performer. He is amazed by guitarists who can do the impossible, like Eric Clapton, Christopher Parkening, and Leo Kottke. While his favorite performers include the Beatles, Rolling Stones, and Crosby, Stills, and Nash, his primary guitar-playing influences are Paul Simon and James Taylor. Jeff also plays blues slide guitar, and favors the Delta blues of Robert Johnson.

Jeff went to an open mic run by Marconias at Coffee Cabana about 5 years ago and has been an open mic junkie ever since. He has also contributed songs to all four of the Songwriters Challenges.

About the songs:

"Was It a Song?" was professionally recorded at Desert Vista Studios. Lynn Rathbun provides the lead vocals; Chris Frazer is also featured.

"Red Hair, Green Eyes" was professionally recorded at Mojo Recording. Bob Villa provides the lead vocals and guitars.

"Alive" was recorded by Chris Frazer at his home, using an obsolete 8-track system that records to ZIP disks. He and Tara Glazier provide the amazing harmonies.

"If It Weren't for Love" and "Stranger in a Strange Land" were recorded in Jeff's living room in single live takes using the built-in microphone of a laptop computer, as is probably apparent from listening to them.
